The president of the Juilliard School of Music in New York, the composer William Schuman, said after the Juilliard String Quartet was founded in 1946: "And the Beethoven. They play Beethoven quite differently than he has ever been played."
Today, the Juilliard Quartet is regarded as one of the greatest string quartets ever, not least because of its Beethoven interpretations, for which the quartet was awarded a Grammy.
in 1975, the Juilliard String Quartet gave a concert in Pollin in Upper Bavaria, captured on this DVD, and a unique document of the "halfway point" in the success story of this great ensemble. And the success continues, the Juilliard String Quartet has now been in existence for 62 years!
