Recorded in May 1961 live at the Village Gate, NYC, this is Horace Silver's only live album for Blue Note and is a funky soul-jazz classic. Featuring musicians Blue Mitchell (trumpet), Junior Cook (tenor sax), Gene Taylor (bass) and Roy Cook (drums), the album includes five Silver originals: 'Filthy McNasty', 'Kiss Me Right', 'The Gringo', 'Cool Eyes' and the classic title track 'Doin' the Thing'.
