Samba in combination with soccer and beautiful women is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Brazil. We want to dispel these clichés and show samba as it really is. This is precisely the central discovery of this film: samba cannot be reduced to dance and a lascivious hip swing, samba is rather reflected in words, language, lyrics and in a certain lifestyle.

The composer and singer Martinho da Vila guides us through the contemporary world of samba. We meet his samba school in Rio de Janeiro, the Vila Isabel, winner of the 2013 Carnival.
